Install the Shopify app and connect your store in under 5 minutes

Installing Instant Art Kit

Getting started with Instant Art Kit is quick and easy. Follow these steps to install the app and connect your Shopify store.

Step 1: Visit the Shopify App Store

  1. Go to the Shopify App Store
  2. Search for “Instant Art Kit”
  3. Click on the Instant Art Kit app listing

Step 2: Install the app

  1. Click Add app on the app listing page
  2. You’ll be redirected to your Shopify admin
  3. Review the permissions requested by Instant Art Kit
  4. Click Install app to approve

What permissions does Instant Art Kit need?

Instant Art Kit requests access to:

  • Read orders - To process custom art kit orders and generate print files
  • Read products - To sync your product variants for mapping
  • Read customers - To match orders to customer information
  • Read metaobjects - To access app configuration settings
  • Write metaobjects - To store app configuration data
  • Write metaobject definitions - To create app configuration structures
  • Read metaobject definitions - To access app configuration structures

App blocks are added to your theme through the Shopify theme editor. No additional permissions required.

We take your privacy seriously and only access the data necessary to process your custom art kit orders.

Step 3: Complete installation

After clicking “Install app,” you’ll be redirected to the Instant Art Kit dashboard. The installation is now complete!

Getting started

Now that Instant Art Kit is installed, follow our step-by-step tutorial to set everything up:

This guide walks you through:

  1. Creating your first template
  2. Mapping your first product
  3. Adding the upload button to your Shopify theme
  4. Testing the customer experience

Setup typically takes about 10-15 minutes.

Understanding your dashboard

Once installation is complete, you’ll have access to the Instant Art Kit dashboard. Here’s a quick overview of each section:

Home (Dashboard)

Your main dashboard showing key metrics at a glance.

What you can see:

  • Preview generations count
  • Print files generated count
  • Order statistics (total, pending, processing, completed, failed)
  • Filter by time period (7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 365 days)

This gives you a quick overview of how Instant Art Kit is performing in your store.

Orders

View and manage orders that contain line items where Instant Art Kit has created print files.

What you can do:

  • See which orders have been processed
  • View the upload, preview and print files
  • Check processing status
  • Navigate to the corresponding Shopify order

Note: This is a quick reference view only. All actual order fulfillment happens in Shopify, not in Instant Art Kit.

Products

Create and manage product mappings that connect your Shopify products to Instant Art Kit.

What you can do:

  • Create new product mappings
  • Select Shopify products to map
  • Link products to templates
  • Map Shopify variants to Instant Art Kit properties (sizes, stone types, etc.)
  • Edit or delete existing product mappings

This is where you tell Instant Art Kit which of your Shopify products should use custom image processing.

Templates

Create and manage templates that define the layout of your production files.

What you can do:

  • Create new templates
  • Upload your logo
  • Set order number format
  • Edit existing templates
  • Link templates to products

Templates ensure every production file has a consistent look and includes all the information your supplier needs.

Billing

View your current plan and billing details.

What you can do:

  • View your current plan (Free during beta)
  • See plan features and transaction fee percentage
  • Upgrade when paid plans launch after beta

During the beta period, all features are available on the Free plan with a small transaction fee charged only when customers complete orders.

Settings

Customize the appearance of your Instant Art Kit upload modal.

What you can do:

  • Customize button colors (primary, secondary, ghost styles)
  • Manage translations via Shopify’s Translate and Adapt app (learn more →)

This is where you ensure the upload modal matches your store’s brand.

Next steps after installation

Test before going live

Before making Instant Art Kit live to customers, we recommend:

  1. Place a test order yourself to see the customer experience
  2. Upload a test image and generate previews
  3. Download the production files and verify quality
  4. Send test files to your supplier to confirm compatibility
  5. Check the upload button styling matches your brand

This ensures everything works smoothly when real customers start ordering.

If you run into any issues during installation or setup:

Troubleshooting installation issues

App doesn’t appear after installation

If Instant Art Kit doesn’t show up in your Shopify admin after installation:

  1. Refresh your browser (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R)
  2. Check your Apps section in Shopify admin
  3. Try logging out and back in to Shopify
  4. Contact support if the issue persists

Permission errors during installation

If you see permission errors:

  1. Make sure you’re logged in as the store owner or an account with app installation permissions
  2. Review the permissions requested and ensure they’re approved
  3. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app
  4. Contact Shopify support if you can’t approve permissions

Can’t find the app in Shopify App Store

If you can’t find Instant Art Kit in the Shopify App Store:

  1. Search for “Instant Art Kit”
  2. Check you’re searching in the Shopify App Store (not Google)
  3. Use our direct installation link
  4. Contact our support team for assistance

Installation takes too long

Installation should complete in under 2 minutes. If it’s taking longer:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Try refreshing the page
  3. Clear your browser cache
  4. Try a different browser
  5. Contact support if installation hangs for more than 5 minutes

Uninstalling Instant Art Kit

If you need to uninstall Instant Art Kit:

  1. Go to your Shopify admin
  2. Navigate to Apps
  3. Find Instant Art Kit in your app list
  4. Click the trash icon or Delete
  5. Confirm the uninstallation

What happens to your data?

When you uninstall:

  • Session data is cleaned up immediately
  • Your product mappings and templates are retained for 30 days in case you reinstall
  • Print files follow standard retention (60 days from generation)
  • Preview images follow standard retention (30 days from generation)
  • Metadata in Shopify is not wiped by default but stays (this data contains settings and translations)
  • Your Shopify products and orders are never modified or deleted

We recommend downloading any important production files before uninstalling. You can also request full data deletion by contacting us.
